ANTIQUE CANVAS

Vuscichè's materials include Antique Canvas, a plain weave fabric typically made from cotton, with lesser amounts of linen and hemp. Originating from past eras, it remains a textile masterpiece admired for its durability, versatility, and elegance.
In Abruzzo, weaving of these fabrics reached its peak during the World Wars, where every family had a loom, known as 'Torselli', used for making sheets, bandages, and dishcloths. These were meticulously handmade on small looms measuring between 60 and 90 cm. Today, this material is rare and costly, with remnants still found. We preferentially use it for jackets and trousers, sometimes hand-dyeing it or leaving it natural with trunk stains that add both historical patina and graphic appeal to the fabric.

BLANKET

The Regenerated Blanket fabric from Abruzzo, woven with authentic wool in typical colors, encapsulates the rich history of this Italian region. With a centuries-old textile tradition, Abruzzo has given birth to this blanket, expressing love for nature, respect for local heritage, and a commitment to a more sustainable future. Located in the Majella National Park, Taranta Peligna played a crucial role in developing this textile art, thanks to its position along key trade routes like the Tratturo Magno and the Wool Road. By the late Middle Ages, Taranta Peligna had become a thriving commercial and textile center, culminating in the 19th century with the birth of the famous Abruzzese Blanket, an essential part of bridal trousseaus. Production of these blankets continued for centuries, preserving the characteristics and quality of the materials through the expertise of local artisans and the last surviving mill, a custodian of this millennia-old tradition. The design of the Regenerated Abruzzese Blanket is distinguished by its traditional motifs such as the Nepezzano Flowers, Sulmona Geometries, and the Angels of Taranta Peligna, showcasing local craftsmanship. Local production of these regenerated blankets often involves mending, a repair practice using original threads to extend the fabric's lifespan. This process embodies sustainability and the preservation of craftsmanship, providing an opportunity to revisit the past through regenerated textiles that represent an ancient heritage adapted for future generations.

DAMASCO

Regenerated damask is a textile masterpiece that traces its origins to the ancient lands of the Middle East, where its intricate weave is crafted on Jacquard looms using cotton and silk. This prized fabric is renowned for its reversibility and has traversed centuries of history, remaining a symbol of refinement and luxury. In Abruzzo, numerous damasks can be found that were once part of bridal trousseaus from 1930 to 1980. Although their exact origins are uncertain, they are predominantly composed of cotton and silk. Today, regenerated damask represents an expression of sustainability and innovation. Through advanced dyeing processes and material recovery techniques, old damasks are transformed into new creations, preserving not only the fabric's history and quality but also contributing to waste reduction and the adoption of more responsible practices in the textile industry. This fabric, with its millennia-old history and timeless beauty, continues to embody a blend of artisanal tradition and modern vision, offering an exclusive testament to elegance and durability.

MAEBA

Maeba International is a local-family company with almost 100 years of experience in the textile industry. Following a warehouse experience requested by a major brand for managing textile remnants, the current Maeba International was born, specializing in the recovery of fabrics that would otherwise be destined for devaluation processes such as destruction. Under the leadership of Savina Saporiti, CEO of Maeba International, the company has taken an even more concrete and decisive stance in organizing and defining the business with strategies oriented towards the circular economy. It became a Benefit Corporation in 2022 and developed the ReLiveTex® project in 2020, a second-level environmental claim that recognizes fabrics, accessories, and yarns that have been saved from devaluation processes and promoted for new uses. Today, the company operates in 3 warehouses (12,000 square meters), offering over 35,000 different items with more than 4 million meters of available fabric, in addition to accessories and yarn. Mission: Valuing textile resources! Maeba International's mission is to further develop synergies with Italian textile producers and luxury brands who desire to make the principles of the circular economy their philosophy. This way, Maeba can become a tool and partner for this important change. We recover materials so that all industry users—designers and manufacturers, as well as major brands committed to developing sustainable collections—have the opportunity to use quality products without the hurdle of minimum production requirements. The vision of value enhancement is developed not only through the promotion of these still first-use fabrics but also by optimizing usable meterages, focusing on the value/defect ratio of different materials.

SHEEP'S WOOL

The history of sheep's wool fabric is steeped in ancient traditions and embodies nature and artisanal craftsmanship. In Abruzzo, this narrative takes on a distinctive character as the region has long been a custodian of millennia-old techniques related to wool processing. Since ancient times, sheep's wool has been prized for its thermal regulation and insulating qualities. Local artisans are masters at employing both ancient and modern techniques to create high-quality wool yarns. Advantages of Sheep's Wool: - Thermal Insulation: Sheep's wool provides natural thermal insulation, keeping the body warm in colder months and cool in warmer ones. - Felting Properties: With heat, moisture, friction, and pressure, the scales on wool fibers interlock, reducing the fabric size and creating a durable material used in hats, jackets, and other garments. - Breathability: Wool is highly breathable, allowing the body to breathe and naturally regulating moisture. - Durability: Wool fiber is resilient and can maintain its shape over time, ensuring the longevity of garments. - Sustainability: Local and sustainable wool production in Abruzzo contributes to reducing environmental impact, promoting responsible agricultural practices and animal welfare. Our collection of sheep's wool garments embodies this blend of past and present, offering not only quality and comfort but also a history that unfolds through every woven thread.

LEATHER

The leather industry is undergoing evolution with the introduction of new technologies and materials aimed at making production more sustainable and ethical. However, there are still many challenges to overcome. In Abruzzo, many artisans work with advanced leather materials rather than those from large industrial productions. Vuscichè takes a unique approach by purchasing these materials by weight and using them for its leather creations. This process ensures that each bag is practically unique, as materials vary even if the model may repeat, much like most of our items.
